Tutorial 5 - Automating Parameters.

... Adding some movement.

We'll now automate a parameter.

Double tap on the Freq knob (located at the top left of the filter section) to display the Parameter Editor Screen...

Tip:

  • You can automate every knob, button and slider in Griff.

Draw a line from the bottom left corner of the grid to the top right...

Tip:

  • Use the Zoom time button to view more or less of the pattern. Tapping on the top half of the button displays less bars in the pattern grid, the bottom half shows more.
  • use the zoom notes button to view more or less parameter automation data. Tapping on the top of the button displays less data, the bottom displays more.
  • Use the Hardware up and down buttons on our pocketPC to scroll through the range.
  • When zoomed in use the Hardware left and right buttons on your pocketPC to scroll through the beats and bars.
  • The Parameter Editor Screen is the alternative view to the Pattern Editor. tap on the Pattern Editor Button to view the notes in the pattern.

Your screen should look something like this.

You have just automated the frequency parameter of the mSyn.

Tap play if Griff is not currently playing to hear the result.

If you go back to the mSyn (tap the OK button , or select mSyn from the Views menu) you will see the Freq knob automatically moving to reflect your automation wishes. How neat is that ?

Tip:

  • To clear the automation data for this parameter, tap on the flag in the top left of the screen and select clear events.
  • To make the line smoother, reduce the quantizing by tapping on the flag in the top left of the screen and selecting 1/2, 1/4 or Off from the Quantize menu.
