Tutorial 6 - Adding an Effect.

..Effects change the sounds made by Instruments.

Now let's add an effect.

Tap on the mixer button (or from the Views menu, select Mixer) to go to the Mixer Screen.

Tap and hold on a blank area of the mixer to bring up the mixer context menu.

Select Add Effect to bring up the effect list.

Select Delay from the list and tap OK .

Your Mixer screen should look something like this.

A new knob has been added above each instrument channel, this controls the amount of sound each channel sends to the effect.

Above the master channel, three new controls have been added:

  • The effect active light indicates whether the effect is on (lit) or off (unlit). Tapping the light toggles the status of the effect.
  • The effect level knob controls the overall level of the effect.
  • The effect pan knob controls the overall position of the effect in the stereo field.

Tap and drag up on the effect level knob above the mSyn channel. You should hear your mSyn bassline being duplicated.

Now let's change the Delay effect parameters. From the Views menu tap on Delay...

This brings up the Effect Screen.

Tap and drag down on the balance knob, the sound of the delay should now ping pong from the left to right and back again.

Tap and drag up on the delay time knob, the delay will become more pronounced.

Tap and drag up on the feedback knob, the number of times the sound repeats will increase.

Isn't this great ?

Tip:

You can automate any of these knobs just like you did the mSyn parameters in tutorial 5.
